The first winner of the Oaks, which took place on Friday 14th May 1779, was the 5/2 favourite Bridget, a bay filly by Herod out of Jemima, owned by the 12th Earl of Derby. There were 12 runners and the winner won £840 (worth £122,600 in 2017)
